Where Research and Industry Meet in Immersive XR

MAVEL Lab (MAVEL Labor) is a full-scale virtual and augmented reality environment at THWS enabling collaborative prototyping, simulation, and experiential learning.

Immersive XR scene

MAVEL Lab is a space where you step inside virtual environments instead of viewing them on a screen.

Students, researchers, and companies use digital twins, interactive simulations, and data visualizations to prototype, test, and evaluate ideas collaboratively.

Unlike headset-only VR setups, MAVEL surrounds users with projection, spatial audio, and motion tracking, allowing multiple people to share and interact within the same virtual space.

This shared environment is powered by the MUSE (Multi-Unified Sensory Environment) system.

Ways MAVEL Lab Is Used

We support projects across education, industry, and research. Below are the primary ways teams apply MAVEL.

Use Case 01

Learning & Prototyping

Explore ideas at human scale before they become physical or expensive.

  • Prototype concepts in full-scale immersive environments.
  • Test interfaces, spaces, and workflows before implementation.
  • Expose usability issues early and reduce costly rework.
  • Collaborate across teams in one shared simulation.

Use Case 02

Industrial Simulation

Evaluate processes before building them in reality.

  • Simulate operations that are risky or expensive to test physically.
  • Validate layouts, task flows, and training scenarios pre-deployment.
  • Improve safety and ergonomics through full-scale walkthroughs.
  • Align stakeholders faster with shared, in-context reviews.

Use Case 03

Research & Validation

Study behaviour and data inside the environment it represents.

  • Run immersive studies with realistic context and controlled conditions.
  • Observe interaction, cognition, and decision-making in real time.
  • Turn complex datasets into spatial, interactive evidence.
  • Communicate findings clearly with experiential demonstrations.

How it Works

We refine, test, and perfect immersive experiences through a collaborative process ensuring every solution is practical, scalable, and ready to perform. We work in 4 steps.

We begin by generating and refining interactive use case ideas together. Promising concepts are shaped into clear, structured XR scenarios with defined goals and feasibility.

But, what makes us different?

MUSE

We are Europe’s only lab that supports this technology.

MUSE CORE
System

MUSE

(Multi Unified Sensory Environment)

A room‑scale environment where synchronized projection, audio, and tracking make digital worlds behave like physical space.

Environment

Shared Room

Digital environments exist at real scale so teams can walk, test, and evaluate ideas together without headsets.

Capability

Spatial
Perception

Visuals adjust to your position so objects remain stable in space, enabling accurate depth, scale, and alignment.

Infrastructure

Interaction
Tracking

Movement and gestures directly control the environment so feedback feels immediate and spatially grounded.

System

Computation

Multiple perspectives render in real time, keeping shared sessions synchronized and responsive at full scale.

Hardware

Projectors

(Multi Unified
Sensory Environment)

High‑lumen projectors create continuous surfaces, delivering stable visuals across walls and floor.
